Joy! Conservatory
Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts has partnered with the Community School of the Arts to create the JOY! Conservatory program.
The JOY! Conservatory is open to students, grades 9-12 who play violin, viola, cello, string bass, or piano. Auditions are held annually in June.
During the academic year, students accepted into the JOY! Conservatory participate in a rigorous course of study, which includes:
- Weekly private lessons (30-60 minutes)
- Ensemble rehearsals/coachings (60-90 minutes)
- Basic musicianship courses (60-90 minutes)
A number of professional performances, concerts, recitals, and masterclasses are offered to JOY! Conservatory students at no cost. Lessons, ensemble rehearsals, and courses are held at the University of Connecticut, Storrs Campus.
Scholarships are available to cover weekly applied lessons, ensemble coachings, basic musicianship courses, and other program costs for disadvantaged and/or musically gifted students. Program acceptance and scholarships are awarded based on an application essay, applied audition, and financial need.
